It has been a very busy year for us. We went from our beta version to a final release of Roo-Trader version 6. We completed our migration from OTrader version 4 and released the import wizard to migrate our clients to the new version. Our users have been quiet, which means Roo-Trader is working, the application is stable and now users are requesting some new features. We will keep adding them to our to-do list. We prioritize our tasks and constantly work on them. This software will keep evolving to serve you better in 2013. We will work hard to stay with our monthly release schedule. However, some features will require more time or resources than a monthly release will allow. So, that schedule will probably vary. Coming in 2013 we have multi-language support being released in January. Then a long list of additions that we have been tracking. The functionality will not change, but we will be adding more import/export functions. Also, look for the addition of tracking your trades in your journal. We all wish you a success in your personal and professional lives. Happy Trading in 2013! Sincerely, William and the Roo-Trader Team!
What a long and winding road this has been. After two years of work, the development team put out RC1 on Friday. The beta testers have pulled it down and are again making suggestions to us. Although, we are hearing less and less from them as their issues have been addressed. We still need your input to keep doing our updates for you. Suggestions and comments are very welcome! The current update notes for Version 6 RC1 are here: V6-RC1-Notes http://www.otrader.com.au/updates/RooUpdates.asp?Serial=Z1Z There are still a lot of updates we will be making. Our next big set of challenges are the migration wizard for our older software users, and then the price updates. We also had some feedback from two Forex users that will require us to add a section for their needs. That will make it easier for them to navigate the system. Happy Trading! BETA 9 has been uploaded to DropBox. In this release are the following: 1. Added strategy name in the subtotal row in the View Trades by Strategy (as suggested by Glenn), likewise fixed grouping by strategy (original code groups 2 strategies as one if the security codes are the same). 2. Ability to select Strategy Name in Multi Leg Trade window without the need to clear all previously entered trade details (as suggested by Neil). 3. Fixed possible bugs in European formats (this is a blindfolded attempt though because we don not have enough parameters to test the bugs because there was no log in RooERROR.log). 4. Code cleanup – removed unnecessary custom methods/functions (which were used in V4) but fully supported by .Net (and used the .Net version instead to prevent unnecessary bugs. 5. Fixed function to get Unique Code, which was suspected to be caused in virtual machines, but was actually a flaw when running in Windows 7. 6. Other minor bug fixes which came along the way. EXTEND YOUR BETA TRIAL PERIOD: Download the current beta from the Dropbox folder. Install the version 6 beta over the existing beta. If you need to extend the trial period, please do the following: under Help->Activation->Extend evaluation period (this will open a window) Please email me the “Unique Code” that will be displayed, then I will give you an extension code you can use to input in that same window to extend the trial period. This may take a day depending upon our time zones. Also, based on Alfonso’s suggestion, we are changing the menu so you can extend the trail BEFORE it expires so you do not lose any functionality. We realize we are working with global users and our time zones are off. So we want to get you a code with time to spare. Please send your comments back to us and we will work them into the software! Happy Trading! Roo-Trader/ OTrader Team www.roo-trader.com www.otrader.com.au
We finally got our final beta completed. Our testers will give it a look, and we’ll start shipping the new release. This update took a while to complete. We pulled back and refined a few pieces based on our beta users feedback. Items included: 1. Trading Rules – Multiple rules with multiple guidelines for each rule can be set, also Exchanges and Instruments can be set to which the rules apply. 2. Broker Styles have been added – default settings include AUS, EU, US – Broker Style Settings can be accessed at: Menu->Edit->Preferences And Setup -> Brokers -> Broker Styles 2.a. When portfolio of user is upgraded to have the Broker Styles, all current Broker’s are set to use AUS by default. Users can modify this by editing their Brokers settings (this window has also been updated). 2.b Broker styles determine the necessity for Broker fees, taxes OCH fees and taxes, including stamp duty and these fields are shown/hidden appropriately in Enter Trade window depending on the selected Broker. This has been integrated with the existing logic to also determine the necessity of these fields based on the selected Instrument. 3. User can now turn off annoying message asking if he wants to enter Trade Notes after entering a trade. 4. “Close Trade” menu item is not available for Single Trades. (Only “Close Single Trade”). 5. A lot of computational bug fixes brought about by the method to convert string to double datatype. 6. Fixed several UI errors and non-working windows (e.g. Finance Costs). 7. Automatic schema updating of old portfolios to use new DB schema, for new installs though the new schema/structure is readily available. 8. Bug fix on “Create New Portfolio” as found out by Aries (can make the DB structure but cannot add “default” records). 9. Minor details like add icons to context menu in View Trades window, and some icons in Main Menu. 10. Some other bug fixes and enhances which came our way. Note: A user request to support input based on his Regional Settings (using comma’s and decimal points the EU way to enter data) is very tricky (that’s the reason why some other software don’t really support that), but we are looking more deeper into it on what is the best/safest approach. We look forward to shipping the new version to you in May! William
We are putting the final touches on Version 6 Beta 8. It has been a long month. We were pushing out the beta software approximately every two weeks. However, this time, we slowed down for five weeks between beta releases. We got feedback from a several users that we needed to make the changes they requested. This will be our last beta before we ship the final release. Our current plan is to: 1. Ship Version 6 beta 8 and get our users feedback. 2. Finalize and ship Version 6 to new users from the web site. 3. Build the migration wizard for our version 4.2.5 to bring their existing data into the new Version 6 database. 4. Migrate our existing users and ensure they are operational. 5. Continue improving the tools to help you in your trading. A simple plan, but it will take us months to get through this simple plan. Our beta testers will have the software this week (2012-04-16) and the new version will ship within a few weeks depending on their feedback. We took our time on this release, but we were certain we never wanted to ship a half backed solution. We are here to help you in your business, not to do one-time sales. Happy Trading! William
We were going to release our next beta tomorrow. However, we had some feedback from the Yanks, that basically we need to clean up the configuration page when you set up a new broker. Right now, the entries cover both the USA and AUS (as well as other countries). The difference is in how taxes are charged by the brokers for a trade. We had everything on one page. This was not an elegant solution since it caused trouble tickets where the USA users would ask if they had to fill in the VAT components since they didn’t apply. By breaking this interface out, we are hoping to clean up some of the confusion. With so many trading centers around the globe, trying to get a generic interface built just didn’t work. So, we are trying to make it more specific. Pick where you are, and what you need, then set up your accounts. So far, we have: 1. A new Trading Rules section. This tool has been completely redesigned so you can build a new rule, pick the type of financial instrument it applies to, and what markets you want to use it with. 2. A completely new interface for the Trading Notes section. These notes are now integrated into the database so you can search for the notes on your previous trades. This should make them more helpful as you review your successes and failures at the end of the week. 3. Several logical errors we found in our code. This is a constant review with every beta release. We keep pushing to ensure our code is as clean as possible by the time we release. 4. Still working on the DDE updates. Some of our testers wanted specific imports. We are working to include them as menu options for everyone. As an example, one user wanted to import their end of data from their trading site using DDE. We are working to make that choice available for everyone. If you have an existing account, you will need to enter your user name and password to pull the data. Your feedback will help us make this tool more helpful to our users. So, please send your suggestions for version 6 Beta 9 after we release Beta 8. We expect to release Version 6 Beta 8 within two weeks for another round of testing by our users. Thank you all! The Roo-Trader / OTrader team. www.roo-trader.com www.otrader.com.au
Our goals for this year are to release version 6 of our software, along with the infrastructure to ensure you have your data where and when you need it. In addition, we reserved a new domain name called Rootrader.com. Some of our non-Aussie clients messaged us to ask if we do US or EU markets. Yes we do! To help find our software, and ensure our global users are confident in our product, we needed a COM address. So, Rootrader.com is being built. Right now, RooTrader.com directs to our current web page. In a few weeks, when we stand up our new web server the domain will point directly to the new pages. The OTrader.Com.AU page will remain, and eventually, we will link everything to the new page. We don’t want to lose any of our users while we transition. Also, in 2011, we will finish the new release to our software. We are writing the software in C# (pronounced C-Sharp) and retiring our current Visual Basic software. This will allow us to release our updates in a more timely fashion. We are going to be making some changes to the database that holds your data. That is why we have been going so very slowly. We don’t want to lose any data as we move forward. Ever. At the same time, we need to add some reports, and allow for future upgrades. These changes will allow us to add the features you have been requesting. As the year progresses, we are working to add more features to the software. As always, if you have been paying for support, you will get your updates for free. Stay tuned! Nik
